TAB tipping expert Nick Quinn gives his suggested bets for the feature races at Flemington and Eagle Farm.

BEST BET: Ayrton (Eagle Farm, R3 No.2)

VALUE BET: The Harrovian (Eagle Farm, R8 No.12)

LAY OF THE WEEK: Jaguary (Morphettville, R3 No.1)

2YO SPRINT SERIES (1000M)

Sandown, R1, 11.40am

There has always a big watch on Ranveer and he looks well-placed to break his maiden.

The colt was the subject of a significant betting plunge on debut but was scratched on race day before he was sent out a firm favourite at Flemington last December when second to Profiteer.

The Profiteer formline subsequently looks irresistible with the colt then going on to win the Inglis Millennium by more than five lengths before running second to eventual Golden Slipper winner Anamoe in the Group 2 Todman Stakes.

The main danger is second-elect Hurtle. who produced a spectacular debut performance on the Ballarat Synthetic winning by 5½ lengths.

Mimosas is worth including at double-figure odds on the back of a debut Flemington victory.

THE TIP: RANVEER win.

GUNSYND CLASSIC (1600M)

Eagle Farm, R3, 12.39pm

Punters were lamenting Ayrton’s first defeat a fortnight ago in the Fred Best Classic.

His second to Apache Chase that day ruined many multis and pre-post Stradbroke Handicap wagers.

On the positive side, he’s perfectly placed here to return to the winners’ list.

At $1.70, Ayrton looks a good play for multi bets.

There has been early support for Ellsberg, who is at $4 second favourite.

There has been support for Without Thinking, backed from $15 into $11, after three consecutive wins this year at Sunshine Coast and Ipswich.

THE TIP: AYRTON win.

Q22 (2200M)

Eagle Farm, R5, 1.53pm

Zaaki is one of the most promising gallopers in the country and looks to have a mortgage on the Group 2 Q22 after two dominant wins in Queensland in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes and Group 1 Doomben Cup.

After obliterating the opposition in the Doomben Cup, TAB bookmakers slashed his price for the Cox Plate and he is now the $3.50 favourite.

One astute punter had a bet of $100 each-way at $51.

Zaaki was an $8 chance in pre-post betting for this race and is now all the rage at $1.50.

He is simply a class above the opposition and it comes down to personal opinion on how to play a $1.50 chance, if at all.

Toffee Tongue was runner-up to Zaaki in the Doomben Cup and can again feature in the placings.

Victoria Derby winner Warning was back to his best last start in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap.

THE TIP: ZAAKI win.

JJ ATKINS STAKES (1600M)

Eagle Farm, R7, 3.13pm

One punter will turn $3271 into $50,013.59 if the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Converge can win the JJ Atkins.

The punter had a three-leg multi at odds of $15.29 with Heleva Deel and Real Feeling both winning the first two legs at Pakenham on June 8.

Converge is the $3.40 favourite for the JJ.

THE TIP: CONVERGE win.

STRADBROKE HANDICAP

Eagle Farm, R8, 3.53pm

Betting for the Stradbroke was turned on its head a fortnight ago when $3.50 pre-post favourite Ayrton failed to qualify for the race.

It is now an incredibly open race.

Vega One was $15 prior to his impressive Group 1 win last start in the Kingsford-Smith Cup, and is now the $4.50 favourite after drawing barrier four.

Apache Chase, who defeated Ayrton, has to overcome a sharp rise in grade but he will give the field something to chase with no weight on his back. He should give a good sight at double-figure odds.

Wild Planet caught the eye with a fast-finishing second behind Eduardo in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and his second-up form is strong.

The Harrovian, who shot to prominence with an 11-race winning streak, will be the feel-good story if he wins.

The cult horse showed he is up to the class after running fifth in the All-Star Mile and a close third in the Doomben 10,000, and he has an excellent record at 1400m.

He is a winning chance at $9.

THE TIP: THE HARROVIAN each-way.
