So glad you asked!
Asked what?
What my preferred fitness regime is these days.
Ok … so what is it?
I have a new one. I’m into wellness with some hell yes.
Help me understand this, please.
That’s the motto of FS8, a brand new fitness concept from F45 Training. I’ve just been to the launch at their Sydney studio and I’m completely hooked.
What’s so hell yes about it?
FS8 combines the best elements of pilates, yoga and resistance training.
It’s a mash-up of stretch and strength, with moves taken from eight different traditional disciplines in a holistic, fully functional, full-body workout like no other. And it’s got Mick Fanning.
Ah, Mick … three-time world champion surfer, shark-attack survivor, straight-up Aussie legend.
That’s the hell yes part for me.
Mick is the face of FS8. And it must be working for him, as he’s just made his surfing comeback three years after retiring. He’s even opening his own FS8 studio in Byron.
What’s the appeal for the mighty Mick?
Just like you and me, Mick is time poor.
But when it comes to fitness, he wants it all: yoga, pilates, weight training and all the good bits from multiple disciplines neatly packaged into one optimised 45-minute hit.
FS8 keeps Mick fit while freeing up more time to surf huge waves and avoid three-metre great whites.
There’s an appealing efficiency about the whole concept. Plus, you’ll never be bored. FS8 has 30 workouts and a ‘curated library’ of 2,800 exercises.
It’s like Spotify and Twitter put on their lycra and sweated it up down at the Netflix gym.
Multitasking, snackable content, FOMO-proof and curated … I cannot imagine anything more 2021 than this. It’s like Spotify and Twitter put on their lycra and sweated it up down at the Netflix gym.
Laugh if you must, but it’s seriously good fun. And don’t be thinking it’s for shirkers. The yoga bits are more oomph than om, and the pilates pack a punch. You’ll feel the burn.
I see potential for impressive bragging rights, too. I’ll be able to tell my fitness friends I just did pilates, yoga and resistance training all before breakfast, and watch them tumble from their Pelotons with awe.
See you at the first FS8 session, then?
