Hot on the heels of its all-electric F-150 Lightning debut, Ford has even more good news for pickup buyers: The company’s newest truck, the 2022 Ford Maverick, will be revealed on June 8. In the meantime, the automaker has released a few photos and a pair of teaser videos to stoke excitement around the new vehicle. Although details are sparse, we know it’ll be a compact unibody truck that’s smaller than the midsize Ford Ranger, and it’s aimed at buyers who want a pickup’s hauling capacity and versatility in a city-friendly package.
Ford enlisted actress Gabrielle Union to help market the Maverick, and the teaser video below provides the only substantial glimpse of what it’ll look like (a shot of the tailgate, which features a stamped “Maverick” logo). A few other details about the truck have been floating around the Internet recently. According to Car & Driver, the Maverick will share its platform with the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape crossovers, it’ll feature independent rear suspension, and it’s expected to retail for around $20,000. For comparison, the midsize Ranger starts at about $25,000.
The second teaser video doesn’t actually show the truck, but it does shed some light on the target buyer: Drivers who regularly haul bulky cargo, live in urban areas, and are looking for a fun and versatile ride to escape the city limits.
The Maverick’s official debut will take place on June 8, and you can watch it on Gabrielle Union’s Instagram and TikTok channels, Hulu, and on Ford’s social media accounts. (We’ll update this post with more info as it’s released.)
