‘No Time to Die’ Filming Locations You’ll Want to See for Yourself

There are certain things you expect to see in every James Bond movie: cool gadgets, car chases, and beautiful women. Y’know what else? Spectacular scenery. From the limestone rock formations of Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay (The Man With the Golden Gun) to a mountaintop monastery in Greece (For Your Eyes Only), the filming locations are as unforgettable as the fight scenes. The same holds true with No Time to Die filming locations. As you can see, the Bond movie tradition of amazing backdrops is still going strong.

Here are all the filming locations you’ll see in the upcoming Bond flick No Time to Die.

1. Port Antonio, Jamaica

For No Time to Die, an oceanfront cottage was built for James Bond in Port Antonio. Jamaica plays a special role in the Bond series. It stood in for the fictional Crab Key when Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) and her white bikini emerged from the water in Dr. No, one of the series most iconic scenes. Jamaica is also where Ian Fleming wrote all 14 of the Bond books—at his GoldenEye estate.

2. Matera, Italy

When you think of Italy, you think of ancient history. After all, Rome is almost 3,000 years old. But if you go south, the city of Matera is really ancient. Located where Italy’s heel meets its boot, Matera has been around for about 9,000 years. In fact, in this UNESCO World Heritage site, you’ll also find churches, homes, and hotel rooms carved out of rock.

3. Norway

For No Time to Die, some scenes were shot at the frozen Langvann lake, north of Oslo. Bond is also said to lead a chase in his trusty Aston Martin on the winding Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Ocean Road). According to the Guardian, Norway paid 47,000,000 krone ($5 million dollars) to be included in the latest film.

4. Faroe Islands

Located 200 miles north of Scotland, the remote Faroe Islands are self-governed but also part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The archipelago’s 18 volcanic islands are known for steep cliffs, rocky coastlines, waterfalls, and some amazing hiking trails.

5. Scotland

Even though Skyfall, Bond’s childhood home, was blown up in Skyfall, Scotland is still his home. A chase scene in No Time to Die takes place on the shores of Lock Laggan on the Ardverikie Estate, as well as Cairngorms National Park. The largest national park in the UK, Cairngorms is the home of 55 Munros, which are Scottish hills more than 3,000 feet high.

6. London

Most Bond films include a visit to London. After all, this is where 007 originally got his license to kill. While the MI6 building was blown up in Skyfall, it still sits here, untouched, on the banks of the Thames. In addition, many of the interior shots from Bond movies have been shot at Pinewood Studios. That’s right, Blofeld’s Japanese volcano hideout (You Only Live Twice) and Scaramanga’s island lair (The Man With the Golden Gun) were both actually shot about 18 miles from central London in the town of Iver Heath.

Jennifer Connelly on Entering the ‘Danger Zone’ in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Seems like you went to your personal “danger zone.”

So many things about Top Gun feel so emblematic of a time, and the song “Danger Zone” is one of them. I would say I stood on the edge of the danger zone. I walked the perimeter.

Tell us about your character, Penny Benjamin, who wasn’t in the original film. Did you get a nickname like Ice Man or Goose?

Penny’s an independent, optimistic, glass-half-full kind of woman. She’s someone who’s known Maverick for a while. They have a history together. But no nickname. Only pilots get nicknames, and she works in a bar.

“I STOOD ON THE EDGE OF THE DANGER ZONE. I WALKED THE PERIMETER.”

We’ve been trapped inside for a year. Here’s to hoping we can see Top Gun: Maverick in an actual movie theater.

I had the good fortune of seeing a screening in a theater with my family. No one else was there, so I missed that crowd experience. But there was a huge IMAX screen, not just our television. My 9-year-old daughter, Agnes, was bouncing in her seat the entire time. We were all saying afterward, “Wow, we missed the theater experience so much.”

Go-to concession stand purchase?

Honestly, I’m not a huge movie snacker. I don’t know how to make this a more interesting answer. I’m a compulsive confessor. And I’m bad at bullshitting. So, no…I’m not a big popcorn eater.

You and your husband, Paul Bettany, who stars in WandaVision, seem to be hitting the 2021 zeitgeist sweet spot.

We feel privileged to do the jobs we do and loved the time spent working on those projects. If audiences enjoy them, that’s gilding the lily.

Kong Has a Few Things to Get Off His Huge, Hairy Chest

The whole “King” thing has never been my idea. Really, it’s kind of odd that Americans like to label their pop-culture heroes as “King This” and “Queen That” considering the country had a whole revolution to reject royal rule. It’s not like my word is law or anything. But hey, if the size 900 crown fits…

It was a simpler time. You spotted a blonde offered to you in sacrifice, scooped her up, and found a romantic waterfall where you could get to know each other. Understand, I’m not saying it was better then. Times change, even on Skull Island.

The ’80s were great. Big paydays, hanging out with Sly and Arnie, mountains of blow. Literal mountains.

Cranking out a major Kong film every year would hurt my brand. So sometimes I do pick up some character work. If you look closely at Lord of the Rings, you might notice the Balrog fire monster moves with a certain simian grace.

Zilla got the bigger trailer. He was all, “My tail needs more room.” Yeah, well, not as much room as his freaking ego. No, I kid, he’s a total pro. I say “he,” but I understand there’s some confusion on that point. I mean, how do you really tell with a lizard, am I right? And if Zilla is a gal, heck yes, give the lady the bigger trailer.

The catering budget alone on this thing was bigger than Infinity War. Normally I’m a bushmeat and potatoes kind of gorilla, but I’ll say one thing: Zilla flew a chef in from Japan to do omakase, and it really opened my eyes to what sushi can be.

Yeah, I held out for a while. I just thought the script needed a little work. It would just say “Big Fight Scene,” and I’m like “OK, but why am I fighting? Am I threatened, or pissed off, or what? Then came the buzz that the studio was talking to Momoa, so I closed the deal. I’m Kong. Period.

Where do I poop, you ask? What a bizarre question. Would you ask DeNiro that? Let’s just say there are certain parts of New Jersey you should avoid more than others. Let’s move on, shall we?

I typically do all my own stunts. But climb a @#&%’n skyscraper? No, no, my friends, that’s what CGI is for.

‘The Mauritanian’ Actor Tahar Rahim on Method Waterboarding and the Magic of Jodie Foster

Can you give us specifics on going ‘all-in’?

I lost a lot of weight—22 pounds—in a very short amount of time. I asked props to bring me real shackles, to turn the cell as cold as possible. And I experienced waterboarding and force-feeding.

You voluntarily underwent torture?

We had codes in case I put myself in danger, but yeah. Different movies demand different methods. I wasn’t able to make up this part in my mind and make it look real. I didn’t want to sell something. I wanted the audience to feel it. The film is not about whether you think Mohamedou’s guilty or not. It’s about human rights.

We know about most of the harsh conditions at Gitmo. Was there something you discovered during production that surprised you beyond the usual headlines?

Mohamedou’s cell. When I went on set, I needed to spend some time in the cell to just experience it. It’s shocking because you barely have the space to lie down. The light is on 24 hours a day. And it’s all made out of metal so the sound is intense. It’s scary. And then in the courtyard, you can’t even talk to a co-detainee. Mohamedou never saw another detainee except for one little moment.

What was meeting Mohamedou like?

The meeting was a memorable moment, and this encounter will stay written in my heart for life. I was so surprised to see that a man who lived through this could smile, crack jokes, talk about movies or music, and ask about your family. If it wasn’t a true story, it would be hard for me to believe. I had to ask him some touchy questions. But when we started to talk about Gitmo, he changed. He was restless. I could see the trauma coming to life on his face. I felt so bad that I stopped asking questions. I remember saying to myself, ‘Who do you think you are to bring him back there? Stop it now.’

February Streaming Guide: What to Watch on Netflix, Hulu, and More

Don’t know what to watch this month? A Black History Month essential (HBO Max’s Judas and the Black Messiah), a Valentine’s Day romance (Amazon’s The Map of Tiny Perfect Things), and a rocking return (Peacock’s Punky Brewster) are among our top picks for the best movies, series, and documentaries to stream this February. It may be the shortest month of the year, but our essential streaming guide is proof that February’s entertainment offerings didn’t peak with the Super Bowl.

What to Stream on Netflix, HBO Max, AppleTV+, Hulu, and More This Month

What to Watch on Netflix: February 2021

It’s a race to the punchline on the sportsworld-set sitcom, The Crew (Feb. 15), which stars Kevin James as the crew chief in a NASCAR garage who’s driven crazy by tech-obsessed millennials brought in to modernize the team. (And you thought being a mall cop was tough.)

What to Watch on HBO Max: February 2021

Judas and the Black MessiahThe title is a historical spoiler alert in the heart-wrenching story of betrayal (Feb. 12). In 1960s Illinois, car thief William O’ Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) is enlisted by the FBI to infiltrate the Black Panther Party. His loyalties are soon torn between the Feds and revolutionary activist Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya, reuniting with Get Out costar Stanfield).

What to Watch on AppleTV+: February 2021

Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry (Feb. 26) is an intimate and intense documentary chronicling the personal and professional saga of 18-year-old singer Billie Eilish as she creates and releases her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Featuring her brother and collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, and their parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, it’s both a behind-the-scenes look at a gifted artist on the brink of superstardom and a candid coming-of-age story about a teenager going through a turbulent time. (Is there any other kind?)

What to Watch on Hulu: February 2021

Nomadland (Feb. 19) is quite a trip. After losing her factory job and her home amidst the financial crisis, a widow (Frances McDormand) packs her belongings into a van and travels along the American West looking for work. Based on the 2017 non-fiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the 21st Century, this devastating drama from director Chloe Zhao (The Rider, Marvel’s upcoming Eternals) casts real-life “nomads” opposite McDormand and David Strathairn. It’s a surefire Oscar contender—and an emotional experience audiences won’t soon forget.

What to Watch on Peacock: February 2021

Punky power! A rad revival of one of the many adorable orphan sitcoms of the 1980s, Punky Brewster (Feb. 25) finds a present-day Punky (Soleil Moon-Frye) dealing with life as a single mom of three when she meets Izzy (Quinn Copeland), a young girl in the foster care system who reminds her of a certain someone…her younger self. In case you’re looking for a sign this show isn’t totally stuck in the past, Punky’s BFF Cherie (Cherie Johnson) is out and in love with her girlfriend, Lauren (The Good Doctor’s Jasika Nicole). But is the show for nostalgic adults or modern kids? That’s for you to decide.

What to Watch on Disney+: February 2021

New weekly WandaVision episodes continue to give us yet another reason to stay in on Fridays. Watching the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) go Bewitched while playing house with Vision (Paul Bettany) was cute and all, but it’s the way the show has escalated from sitcom spoof to Marvel-ous madness that’s taken the action to another level.

What to Watch on Amazon: February 2021

YA meets Groundhog Day in the sci-fi romance, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things ( Feb. 12). Mark (Kyle Allen) is relatively chill to be stuck living the same day over and over, but meeting the mysterious Margaret (Kathryn Newton) flips his world upside-down. Together, they pick out the little details to make their do-over day perfect.
