Vegan activist Tash Peterson rages after crashing Melbourne Cup Day races x x x x xx

Filed under: Outdoors — Tags: — admin @ 12:15 am

A vegan activist who achieved social media fame by smearing herself with blood made a bold protest at the races on Melbourne Cup Day.

Infamous vegan activist Tash Peterson was escorted out of Perth’s Ascot Racecourse after protesting against animal cruelty on the day the Melbourne Cup was run.

The 27-year-old uploaded several posts and videos to social media of her protest at the West Australian races, where she repeatedly told punters “you bet, they die” and “you paid for their death”. She and another protester also unfurled a banner that said “you bet, they die”.

In an Instagram post, Peterson slammed horse racing as “abhorrent, outdated and barbaric” and she wore a white T-shirt emblazoned with the words: “149 killed on track last year.”

A video posted to her Instagram account showed Peterson continuing to yell at punters as she was escorted outside the venue by police.

In another post late on Tuesday night, Peterson said: “Animals are not here for us. They are not entertainment.”

Peterson told her social media followers: “Today my liquor license ban ended, so we went into the Ascot Races and protested against the horse racing industry.”

Earlier this year Peterson was banned from every licensed venue in Western Australia after a series of stunts where she would storm pubs and restaurants to slam patrons for their dietary choices.

The prominent vegan activist gained notoriety in 2019, particularly on social media, for accosting shoppers at Coles, dressed as a blood-soaked abattoir worker and holding a fake dead chicken under her arm.

She also blasted sounds from animals, reportedly recorded in slaughter houses, and held a sign that read “Coles/Woolworths – Tell them the truth”.

Another dramatic stunt — which involved Peterson storming the Bathers Beach seafood restaurant in Fremantle in March to tell diners they were participating in the “fish holocaust” — is what saw her banned from all licensed venues until Tuesday.

In August, Peterson entered a Louis Vuitton store wearing nothing but underwear and her own period blood.

She held a sign that read “I would rather be naked than wear someone else’s skin” as she entered the designer store in Perth.

“Who was murdered for your leather bag, down jacket and woollen jumper?” she said while walking through the store, which was packed full of shoppers.

Horse deaths at recent editions of the Melbourne Cup have put animal welfare in the spotlight on the day of the race that stops the nation. In 2020 Anthony Van Dyck became the seventh horse since 2013 to die on Cup Day while in 2018, The Cliffsofmoher had to be euthanised after suffering a fractured shoulder.

In response to recent fatalities, race organisers this year took extra precautions to ensure the wellbeing of all horses. The 35 fourth acceptors for the Melbourne Cup were required to undergo screening with a sophisticated CT scanner at Werribee, to pick up any pre-existing medical issues and make sure all the horses were healthy to run.

When the CT scanner broke down, Racing Victoria implemented new measures as a workaround. Those horses that had not yet been scanned were required to undergo comprehensive X-rays of their distal limbs, which were then to be examined by three imaging specialists.

Additionally, all horses had to undergo an extra veterinary assessment on Monday to check they were still healthy enough to run, while two horses — Delphi and Future Score — were looked at by vets again on Tuesday morning.

Future Score presented with lameness in his right foreleg and so was scratched, with vets not willing to take the risk of letting him run.

Benji Marshall was almost aroused watching his wife give birth x x x x xx

Filed under: Outdoors — Tags: — admin @ 11:24 pm

Benji Marshall has given a raw account of his feelings on fatherhood, revealing how attracted he was watching wife Zoe give birth.

NRL great Benji Marshall has opened up on how he felt watching wife Zoe give birth, revealing how attracted he was to her in that moment.

Speaking on Zoe’s podcast The Deep, the recently-retired footy star said his love for his wife “went to another level” and he felt like wanting to “make another baby” as she gave birth.

“In that moment, after she has given birth and seeing her go through all of that stuff, your love for your wife or my love for Zoe went to another level,” Benji said.

“I can’t even explain it. I was looking at her and it sounds crazy but in that moment I was thinking like, ‘Let’s just make another baby now’. That’s how I was feeling.

“She was … I won’t say turning me on, but she had me in a zone where I was just like, ‘I am all for this’. You’ve got to remember, she is making my dreams come true as well at the same time.”

Benji and Zoe got married in 2013 and have two children together — Fox, three, and Ever, four months.

Not knowing his birth dad, Benji always wanted kids of his own and he spoke of his admiration for Zoe in giving him the gift of fatherhood.

“For me growing up, all I ever wanted to do was be a dad,” he said on The Deep. “My mum had me at 15 years of age and I didn’t know my real dad so there was always a part of me that wanted to become a dad and fill a space that I reckon I never got to have.

“When we finally got pregnant with Fox, it was the greatest feeling in the world. Giving birth to Fox was the best day of my life and when we found out we were pregnant with Ever and we found out it was a girl, it was just different being a dad knowing you were about to have a girl. It was a dream come true.

“To see the person you love sacrifice nine months of their life to help you become a parent and fulfil your dream is pretty special. My love sort of went to another level. The connection between us went to another level, even though she was vomiting for most of it.

“The sickness and stuff that comes along with pregnancy is so crazy. I was just so proud of the way she handled it.”

Benji retired after Souths lost this year’s NRL grand final to Penrith, ending a professional career that lasted nearly two decades. He debuted in first grade in 2003 and guided the Wests Tigers to the 2005 premiership.

The 36-year-old also played rugby union and enjoyed stints with St George and Brisbane before re-joining the Tigers, then eventually signing with the Rabbitohs for 2021.

Benji won the 2008 World Cup with New Zealand but none of the highs he reached on the footy field compare to the joy he felt in becoming a father.

“I didn’t realise how selfish my life was until we had children,” he said.

“I didn’t realise how much you just do things for yourself and not really worry about what’s happening with the rest of the world.

“They have turned my life into something so much better and made my life so much more. Being a parent is the best thing in the world.”

‘Chumpy’ Pullin’s widow posts heartwarming update after tragedy Australian snowboard legend Alex Pullin’s widow Ellidy Vlug.

The partner of Aussie snowboard champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin has shared a heartwarming update on her miracle pregnancy.

Ellidy Vlug, the partner of Australian snowboard world champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin, has shared a heartwarming update on her pregnancy as she approaches her due date.

The 32-year-old Pullin drowned in July 2020 while spearfishing at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, believed to have been the result of a shallow water blackout.

Amid the unimaginable grief, Ellidy revealed earlier this year — less than 12 months after his death — that she was pregnant with the Winter Olympian’s child through a miracle procedure.

Ellidy explained her pregnancy had been the result of her and Pullin trying to conceive through IVF treatment the same month Pullin died.

In August, she revealed through Vogue Australia that the conception was the result of a snap sperm retrieval operation in the hours following his death.

On Thursday evening, the Instagram influencer shared an update on her pregnancy with her 100,000 followers, thanking close friends for all their support during what’s been a tumultuous period for the 28-year-old.

Ellidy accompanied the post with a series of images and videos, which featured music written and performed by Pullin.

“My friends literally deserve a medal for the way they have shown up for me the past year,” she wrote.

“Instead of feeling awkward and withdrawing in unfathomable circumstances, they stepped the f**k up in this wild year of ‘firsts’ without my Chumpy, and that cannot be easy! Taking this s**t on head first with me, running towards the pain and suffering, using it as fuel to cherish and look after each other, appreciate every moment, live and be kind.

“The QLD/NSW border closure still never seems to stop the unwavering support and love I receive from everyone back home in Sydney! My crew near and far continually injecting me with energy and grit to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

“I feel so grateful and lucky to be bringing Chumpy’s daughter or son into this love bubble.”

The post received 20,000 likes in less than 12 hours.

Ellidy’s baby is due later this month.

Last month, Ellidy posted on Instagram to celebrate what would have been Pullin’s 34th birthday.

“I reckon I’d be making us brekkie and you’d be in your studio doing exactly this (playing guitar) like you do every morning, before we head down the beach with Rummi (their dog),” she wrote. “The silence is deafening.

“I will never be able to fathom your absence, your family and I just look at each other pining for answers. Nothing makes sense without you. You were the one we’d turn to when we get lost.

“Well, we are f***in lost AF! But one thing’s for sure — we will celebrate you today and everyday. We’ll eat tacos, listen to Jimi Hendrix and light candles on a gluten free cake for your gluten free a**.

“I love you beyond measure, my Angel.”

‘Is this real?’: Shock at Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova Met Gala photo Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova put their feud behind them at the Met Gala.

Filed under: Outdoors — Tags: — admin @ 7:54 pm

Famous rivals Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have shocked fans with an unexpected public display at this year’s Met Gala.

Fierce tennis rivals Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have appeared to put their famous feud behind them after happily posing for photos together at this year’s Met Gala.

They were just two of several tennis stars to attend the famous social event at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Williams attended with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, while Sharapova was there alongside her fiance Alexander Gilkes.

This year’s theme for the Met Gala is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Williams wore a star-spangled silver bodysuit and a floor-length pink cape, while Sharapova wore a gold gown.

Sharapova has been enjoying the social scene in New York, after she was spotted attending the men’s US Open final between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev on Monday (AEST).

Williams and Sharapova had a famously frosty rivalry during their careers and tennis fans were surprised to see the duo getting on well and interacting jovially behind the scenes at the Met Gala.

Sharapova posted a photo to her Instagram story of her alongside Serena and sister Venus, who was also in attendance, accompanied by several raised hands emojis.

All three were smiling ear-to-ear and appeared to be having a great time.

Writer Nikhila Makker was gobsmacked by Sharapova and Williams’ appearance together, tweeting: “Is this real life?”, while journalist Max Gao said of the photo: “I feel like I’m hallucinating. What in the world?!”

The unexpected public display appears to have put to bed one of the most famous rivalries in recent sporting history, which began when Sharapova defeated Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final to become the third-youngest female to win the title.

However, the Russian-born star was outclassed by Williams throughout the rest of her career, losing the three other grand slam finals they contested.

Serena dominated their on-court rivalry, winning 20 out of their 22 meetings at tour level and enjoyed a 16-year, 19-match winning streak against Sharapova.

Sharapova retired in early 2020 as a five-time grand slam champion and one of only six females to win all four majors.

But the 34-year-old was admittedly jealous of Williams’ on-court success, despite amassing a huge fortune through sponsorships and endorsement deals throughout her own career.

In her 2017 autobiography, Unstoppable: My Life So Far, Sharapova mentioned Williams by name more than 100 times, while emphasising the pair are “not friends”.

“What I heard when I came in to the locker room was Serena Williams bawling,” she wrote about the aftermath of her 2004 Wimbledon victory.

“Guttural sobs. I got out as quickly as I could, but she knew I was there.”

“I think Serena hated me for being the skinny kid who beat her, against all odds … I think she hated me for seeing her at her lowest moment.

“But mostly I think she hated me for hearing her cry. She’s never forgiven me for it.”

Williams has previously said she was bemused as to why so much of Sharapova’s book was devoted to her.

But after this latest public amicable appearance, it is safe to say the hatchet has been well and truly buried.

Sharapova was rubbing shoulders with sporting royalty at the event, also posting an Instagram story with NBA star Russell Westbrook.

Williams, a 23-time grand slam champion, was unable to compete at the US Open due to a serious hamstring injury she suffered at Wimbledon.

They weren’t the only tennis stars to attend the Met Gala, with 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens and four-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka also making appearances.

Osaka is a co-chair of this year’s Gala and certainly stood out as one of the hosts. Wearing a Louis Vuitton outfit featuring a colourful corsetted dress and what Vogue describes as a “silk-mix cape featuring 22 ruffles”, Osaka was impossible to miss.

Her hair was just as spectacular, looking like it had grown wings and could fly away at any moment.
