The West Coast Council has opened the tender period for the design of two multi-purpose fitness centres, bringing them one step closer to having indoor fitness facilities and gyms in every town in the region.
The facilities will be in Strahan and Zeehan, with the Strahan fitness venture involving designing an entirely new multi-purpose facility at the Football grounds. The Zeehan facility is a redevelopment of the existing fitness centre, including new change rooms at the pool and overall improved facilities.
West Coast Council General Manager David Midson said he expected this stage in the development, which is part of a $3.8 million federally-funded project, would draw in a fair amount of interest.
IN OTHER NEWS:
“We’ve had a project over the last four to five years of making sure our residents have access to indoor fitness facilities,” he said.
“With the size of the population and towns, it hasn’t been possible to get in a private business. Our aim is to have a gym in every single town.”
“These two projects are much bigger than we’ve done previously,” Mr Midson said.
Tender proposals must be submitted by 4pm on Friday, November 5, via Tenderlink, to be considered.
More information is available on the West Coast Council website.
It is estimated these two fitness centres are at least 18 months away from being completed, with the design process and following community consultation expected to take between between six to eight months.
