As it stands almost half of all Australians still aren’t getting enough sleep. Director of the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, Professor Danny Eckert admits there are many reasons Aussies are battling through disturbed sleep, but taking top spot is clinical sleep disorders — with over one million suffering from disorders like sleep apnea or insomnia.

Rounding out the list of common reasons Australians aren’t getting a good night’s sleep is persistent health problems that physically prevent sleep, like back pain, and those who fail to create regular reoccurring sleep patterns due to commitments, like shift work.

According to Eckert it’s possible to improve your sleep and create good sleep hygiene without having to make too many changes to your routine. And now, as we start to get back into ‘normal’ life, is the perfect time to get stuck into some healthier sleep habits.
