The Australian Institute of Sport has confirmed the AIS Fitness Centre will not re-open after lockdown ends. The pool, swimming classes and public swimming access will resume when permitted. Aquatic classes will not return. Sports Australia said “a small number” of staff were “impacted” by the closure, but they were going to be redeployed to other parts of the organisation. The AIS Arena is currently closed due to lockdown, and will be used as a mass vaccination hub. IN OTHER SPORT NEWS: “The Fitness Centre and programs are no longer commercially viable in an increasingly competitive fitness sector,” a spokesperson said. “Members and holiday program participants are being contacted and refunds will be provided for any fees paid and unused from the start of the ACT lockdown. “Members are also being assisted to find alternate facilities nearby that can offer a similar service.” The fitness centre is not used by athletes.
