Experienced hikers know that weather conditions, regardless of how cloudless the sky might be in the morning, can change in an instant. That’s why many won’t leave home without a rain jacket and an extra pair of wool socks. But waterproof hiking boots are always a good idea for any type of trek that may have mud, puddles, or creeks to traverse, and recently, one of Merrell’s popular Gore-Tex styles was discounted just in time for damp spring hikes.

Right now, the Merrell Moab Speed Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Boots are on sale at REI for just $128, a 24% discount on the $170 list price. These boots have earned over 120 five-star ratings on the site with three colors to choose from in sizes 7 through 15. Plus, with an REI membership (a one-time fee of $30), you can take an extra 20% off with code MEMBER24. A membership coupon drops the price to $102, a savings of $68.

Merrell’s Moab boots are known for their traditional hiking boot construction, but the aptly named Moab Speed is a more nimble, lightweight option. The ankle-cut design protects without adding too much bulk, and the upper is made from a mix of TPU and lightweight, breathable mesh. The Gore-Tex membrane allows moisture to escape while keeping rain out at the same time.

Underneath, a foam midsole and removable insole provide comfortable cushioning for long days of trekking. The boots also feature Vibram rubber outsoles, which are known for durability and traction. In addition to offering a reliable grip on uneven surfaces, the sole has a rock plate that adds underfoot protection on uneven terrain.

The waterproof performance was a major selling point as well, with one shopper writing that they hiked “45 miles in Yellowstone over four days” and stayed “bone dry” even when “submerged to the [ankles] several times.” Another shopper mentioned that the boots “breathe and stay waterproof.”

Shoppers also appreciated these boots for their surprising multi-season use, with multiple complimenting the traction on ice, and others calling them “great for hiking in the Spring.” Another noted that it’s “always a challenge” finding “the right shoe to deal with wet conditions” of fall and spring, and added that these boots “fit the bill.”

With spring hiking on the horizon, the Merrell Moab Speed Mid packs premium features like Gore-Tex waterproofing and a Vibram sole into an affordable package that gets even better with REI membership perks. We’re expecting this boot to sell out, so if you’ve been looking for the ultimate lightweight hiker, pick your size up before they’re gone for good.

Shoppers Use These Salomon Boots to Hike Hawaiian Volcanoes and They’re Nearly $50 Off Right Now

Hikers are as varied as the trails they navigate. That’s why there are so many types of footwear for hiking, ranging from barely-there sandals to light trail runners and hefty leather boots. Salomon’s Outpulse Hiking Boots are a sort of hybrid, combining the nimble feeling of a trail runner with the protection and support of a traditional boot—and now they’re nearly $50 off.

While Salomon hiking boots often come at a premium, right now, the Outpulse Mid Gore-Tex boots are on sale for just $112—a 30% discount on the normally $160 price. Colors include all black as well as a light gray/black colorway with sizes ranging from 7 to 13, including half sizes.

These Solomon hiking boots were designed to tackle tough terrain, but they’re comfortable and stylish enough for everyday use. The key feature of these boots is the Gore-Tex membrane—they’ll keep your feet dry if you’re trudging through puddles or hiking in the rain. Gore-Tex is widely considered the gold standard for breathable waterproofing, so you can confidently hike through inclement weather without your feet overheating.

Structurally, this boot is a mid-ankle style that adds comfort and support on twisty trails. It was given a rubber toe cap to provide additional protection alongside the grippy rubber outsole that eats up terrain without issue. Salomon also used a foam midsole that adds cushioning to create a springy, sneaker-like stride and reduce the overall weight of the boot. That means that although they’re supportive and protective, they won’t be too laborious to trudge in on warmer-weather hikes.

Shoppers were impressed with the boot’s waterproof performance, with one writing that they were “lightweight, stable, breathable yet waterproof.” Another wrote that they “stayed completely dry” on varying hiking trails between Hawaii and Mt. Rainier.

Comfort was a major selling point as well. One shopper wrote that they were “pleasantly surprised by the comfort” on a hike through Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The boots were also popular off the trail. One shopper felt that they were comfortable work boots for “six miles a day on concrete and hard floors,” while a shopper who delivers mail for a living wrote that they “love the tread design” and the “amazing grip.”

Hiking boots of this caliber are typically an investment, but now that the Salomon Outpulse Mid Gore-Tex boots are on sale for $112, getting into a pair is a little bit easier. Sizes are already selling out, though, so act quickly if you want to score savings on these top-rated boots before they’re gone.

‘Snow Is No Problem at All’ With Huckberry’s All-Weather Rain Boot, Now Nearly $100 Off

Rainy weather can be particularly hard to dress for because it’s not as simple as bundling up when it’s cold or shedding layers when it’s hot. That’s why when a product is called “All-Weather,” the weather in question is typically rain. That’s the case with Huckberry’s All-Weather duck boot, too. It’s 100% waterproof, making it ideal for heavy downpours and days when you’re just not sure if the forecast can be trusted.

Unlike heavy shearling boots or canvas espadrilles, a rain boot is not confined to just one season. Whether you’re up against warm spring rains or cold winter ones, a sturdy rain boot is a closet essential, year-round. And now, Huckberry’s All-Weather boot is on sale for $94, half off the $188 list price.

The distinctive duck boot silhouette utilizes a rubber vamp and a leather shaft, combining the water resistance of a rubber boot with the comfort and breathability of a leather boot. The definitive version is L.L. Bean’s Bean boot, but many designers have put their own spin on the style.

Huckberry’s take is more primed to tackle varied terrain, thanks to the grippy tread of the rubber outsole. The boot uses a Vibram outsole, considered the standard for grippy, durable soles. The white midsole gives the boot a sneaker-inspired look, making for a more casual style compared to Bean boots. The waterproof leather upper features a breathable membrane, allowing moisture to escape. That keeps the shoes comfortable (and less sweaty).

The shoes also feature brass speed hooks to quickly lace them up, while the pull tab at the heel assists in slipping the shoes on and off. The cushioned insole and EVA midsole add to the comfort of the boots. According to Huckberry and customer reviews, the boots run large, and the brand recommends going down a half size from your usual sneaker size.

The grippy outsole earned praise from Huckberry shoppers, with one writing that the boots “provide a lot of traction in wet weather.” Shoppers also appreciated that the boots lived up to the “all” part of the All-Weather name. One wrote that “snow is no problem at all, and the traction is actually good.” Another raved, “Been getting snowed on and flooded in the PNW, and this shoe handles it all.”

The streamlined, sneaker-inspired styling was another selling point, with one shopper writing, “The sneaker bottom makes them less bulky and clumsy [than a] regular winter boot.” Another appreciated that it “really does feel like a sneaker.”

Three colors are available, including tan/black, forest night/black, and tan/brown. Sizes of this Huckberry All-Weather boot are moving quickly in every color, though, so you’ll want to act fast.

A Salomon Gore-Tex Hiking Boot That Is ‘Lightweight and Stable’ Is Now Up to 30% Off at REI

REI has been flush with fantastic holiday deals on gear this month, featuring anything from puffer jackets to car roof racks and some of the best Merino wool base layers from Smartwool. But one of the best things to score at REI this month has been men’s hiking boots, with one of the top styles now 30% off in multiple colorways.

The Salomon Cross Hike 2 Mid Gore-Tex men’s hiking boots are on sale for as low as $133—30% off the original price of $190 and nearly $60 in savings. It currently ranks No. 16 among all men’s hiking boots on the site and has earned a 4.1-star rating after more than 130 reviews at REI.

These men’s Salomon hiking boots are waterproof, grippy, and much more sleek than the average boot. They also have a unique lacing system that tightens (and stays tight) with one pull. They’re made with a durable, 30% recycled synthetic upper and have Gore-Tex waterproof membranes that keep water out while remaining breathable to keep your feet dry. The brand’s thick Contagrip rubber sole features deep, Y-shaped lugs that help maintain footing on loose gravel, slippery earth, and other uneven terrain. And, in the true French manner, they’re far more fashion-forward than most (if not all) other styles.

Salomon has been in the spotlight in the last few years, coinciding with the explosion of the gorpcore trend that borrows outerwear and adventure styles and adopts them as streetwear—think Merrell, Arc’Teryx, and Columbia. And though the brand has leaned into it, designing some new, trend-first styles, much of its core offerings remain top-caliber picks for outdoorsmen.

But even newer Salomon fans have found something to love about this particular style. “I’ve been wearing the Solomon Cross Hike 2 for about two weeks now on various types of terrain under different conditions,” a Salomon shopper said. “They are extremely comfortable, lightweight, and stable feeling boots with excellent grip. This is my second pair of Solomons and will not be my last…I have no doubt that my new Cross Hikes will hold up just as well [as the first]!”

Merrell’s No. 1 Hiking Boot Shoppers Say ‘Grip Amazingly’ Is as Low as $75 on Amazon

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

While having a great running shoe from a brand like Asics or Brooks is necessary for running, having one of the best hiking boots for off-trail adventures is non-negotiable. And while there are many great options, the most popular men’s hiking boot from Merrell—one of the most trusted names in adventure gear—is seeing an insane discount on Amazon.

Right now, the Merrell men’s Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot is on sale for as low as $75—up to 50% off the original price of $150. Like most Amazon-sold shoes, different sizes have different discounts. But seeing as how this is a product people willingly buy at full price because of how well it performs, finding any sort of discount comes as a lucky bonus.

This third version of Merrell’s customer-favorite hiking boot is averaging a 4.6-star rating overall, after more than 2,100 total ratings, with nearly 80% of all ratings earning five stars.

The Merrell Moab 3 mid-height hiking boot for men encompasses four main principles the brand felt were needed in an ideal pair of outdoor shoes—comfort, grip, material, and fit.

The insole features the brand’s KeneticFit Advanced footbed, which acts as a pseudo orthotic, molding to the shape of a foot over time, providing a more personalized level of comfort. The outsole uses Vibram TC5+ rubber, known for its ultra durability, with a strategically-placed toe bumper and multi-directional tread pattern suitable for all types of terrain. Merrell is trying its best to think sustainably, using recycled materials to make the laces, webbing, and mesh lining. But they’ve also used a “gold-rated” leather for the upper alongside their trusted waterproof membrane. Lastly, the Moab 3 hiking boots come in both medium and wide sizing to accommodate a larger selection of foot types.

After three iterations of the Moab hiking boot, customers are still left ultra-satisfied with these four tenets after having worn the boots. One customer, who wore them to Glacier National Park, said that, despite many opportunities to slip and fall, the boots stayed true to their word.

“These are really Amazing boots for hiking and I mean it, no break-in required…We just got back from Glacier National Park, the Tetons, and Yellowstone, and I wore them every day. We did a 12-mile hike on Grinnell Glacier with 1,700 feet of elevation on the hike and many opportunities to slip and fall, but the boots grip amazingly well,” they said.

Other customers are amazed at how quickly the boots take to their feet with little to no break-in time. A customer who left for a hiking trip with their son, each armed with a pair of Moab 3s, was wonderfully surprised.

“I put about 40 miles on these last week over ice (with crampons), rock, gravel, sand, ash, dirt, mud, rugged old lava flow terrain, and more, and I couldn’t be happier. I spent about a day breaking them in before I left, and my son (same boot, also new) didn’t try to break them in at all—both of us marveled at how comfortable they were the whole time. They fit true to size, wide for me and standard for my son. No slips or spills, no leaking, no blisters or chaffing, no loose threads. Over sharp, jagged terrain, they flex just the right amount, with great support and great protection. What a great boot—super pleased,” they exclaimed.

There are many great hiking boots, but the men’s Merrell Moab 3 mid-height waterproof boot is famously known for being awesome. Now that it’s on sale for as low as $75, it’s the ideal time to strike to get your next hiking boot for whichever trail may be calling your name.
