The Clarks Wallabee occupies an odd place in menswear. What other shoe is this popular with both tenured professors and members of the Wu-Tang Clan? As is the case with most Clarks shoes, the reason lies at least partly in comfort. The cushioned, natural crepe sole can go toe-to-toe (pun intended) with most modern sneakers, and the Wallabee’s unique silhouette makes it an off-kilter classic.

The combination of supple suede and natural rubber comes at a cost, though, and Wallabees typically run for $160. But right now, Zappos is offering the Wallabee for as little as $91, a savings of $69. Plus, there is a range of colors on sale (enough for each member of the Wu-Tang). Sizes are starting to sell out, so act fast. You’ll want to consult the size chart, too: Wallabees are known for running large.

Clarks’ best-known silhouette is the desert boot, a classic that’s similarly made from suede or leather and natural crepe rubber. If the desert boot is the prodigy, the Wallabee is the dark horse. The shoe has an unusual squared-off moccasin toe and a short, ankle-cut shaft that’s somewhere between a boot and a shoe.

The squared moccasin toe silhouette shines in the comfort department, leaving more wiggle room than a rounded toe. And the crepe sole is a wedge style rather than a heeled sole, adding comfort and support under the entire foot.

Shoppers raved about the comfort of Clarks’ Wallabee boots, with one writing that they “beat my bedroom slippers for comfort.” Another wrote, “These are the most comfortable shoes for being on your feet all day. They are great for teachers, or anyone that is working on a hard surface for a long period of time.”

The aesthetic earned high marks as well, with one shopper writing that the boots look “great casual or dressed up,” and another appreciating that they “work well with jeans and khakis.”

The Wallabee is an enduring offbeat icon that’s been popular everywhere from the streets of Kingston and New York to college campuses. It’s on a rare sale at Zappos, so you’ll want to act fast.

The Iconic Clarks Desert Boot That Shoppers Have Been Coming Back to ‘for Over 40 Years’ Is Nearly 60% Off

To become a true icon, an article of clothing has to be appropriated by different subcultures and worn in seemingly contradictory settings. The Chuck Taylor started as a basketball shoe and was later adopted by the punk scene and most American teenagers. The Levi’s 501 was originally workwear but became a staple of 1950s counterculture (and every subculture since). The Clarks Desert Boot also fits the bill, with a global appeal that unites British Mods with American beatniks, among other groups.

Even for those not looking to wave the flag of counterculture, the Clarks Desert Boot is a staple that goes with just about everything. Typically $150, this classic boot is now available for as little as $62 at Zappos in the Navy Leather colorway.

The desert boot is an ankle-cut style with a simple four-eyelet lacing system that makes it very easy to slip on. They’ll usually have uppers made from leather or suede that feel soft with minimal break-in time. A rounded toe gives feet more wiggle room and gives the boots a more casual look. It’s a silhouette that’s as stylish as it is versatile while offering unbeatable comfort because of the signature detail—the crepe sole. The crepe sole is made from a type of natural rubber that offers cushioned comfort for long days spent on your feet. The main downside is that crepe soles don’t handle water very well. But this boot is ideal for warm, sunny days or cool, dry days.

The Clarks Desert Boot is the kind of style that people continuously come back to. Multiple shoppers mentioned in their reviews that they’ve been wearing this style for decades. One wrote, “I’ve owned [the] Clarks Desert Boot for over 40 years,” and argued that it’s “still a classic.” Another wrote, “this is my fourth pair of Desert Boots. I’ve had all three other pairs for almost 10 years and they only get better with age.”

Some shoppers were amazed at how great they felt, with one writing the “crepe rubber sole’s shock absorbing ability makes this a comfortable shoe,” and another noting that they were “one of my daily choices for walking around the city.” The lack of arch support was a common issue, though customers noted an insert could be added. The boots also tend to run large, so it’s worth consulting the size chart.

The Clarks Desert Boots have been an enduring icon for over half a century, and while they’re not going anywhere soon, they won’t always be available at a price this appealing. If your size is available, you’ll want to act fast to score these boots for up to $88 off.
